After a difficult period in the club’s history, the future of Darlington Railway Athletic Cricket Club is looking brighter in 2021. Newlands Group, and our portfolio of businesses, have showed our support for the century-old club by fulfilling a range of sponsorship opportunities and further strengthening our links with the club.

Founded in 1913, and members of the North Yorkshire and South Durham League since 1914, the club in Cockerton, Darlington, suffered financially both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

But with our backing, and that of the wider community, the future of the club is not only secure again – but looks wonderfully promising.

Newlands Group businesses, Care Matters, Tribe Recruitment, The Robin Centre, and Turn Left have each bought advertising space for the 2021 season. Tribe Recruitment and The Robin Centre have both also sponsored club kits for the season. The Robin Centre becomes the official kit sponsor of the first team, while Tribe Recruitment sponsors the kits of the essential, grass-roots juniors.

Newlands Group is also engaged in activities that will encourage young people from the local community to come to taster sessions, join in with training, and enjoy the socialisation of team-sports. And we’re delighted with the progress the club has already made.

Group founder, Phil Crowther, said of the increasingly promising outlook for the club: “Having this club in the heart of the community is so important, not only to local cricket fans but young people in the area too. “

“It gives them the opportunity to become part of a team, improve physical and mental health, and stay with the club for as long as they want. Having the younger people develop and come through the system also helps to sustain and future-proof the club itself. And our commitment to the club is certainly for the long-term, too.”

Over the next few months, we have a wide range of activities planned to further support the development of the club and will be posting updates regularly on our website.
